Sampson D'Artois or Dartas : ウィキペディア英語版 | Sampson D'Artois or Dartas Sampson d'Artois or Dartas (died after 1430) was an office holder in fifteenth-century Ireland.〔Hadyn, Joseph ''The Book of Dignities'' Reprinted WH Allen London 1890 p.450〕 The d'Artois family were originally from Gascony and came to Ireland about 1490 in the service of the English Crown. The most notable member of the family was Sir Jenico d'Artois the elder (died 1426) who was a trusted military commander in three successive reigns. That Sampson was a close relative, possibly a brother, of Jenico is borne out by Jenico's will, in which he appointed his widow Elizabeth and Sampson as co-executors.〔''Patent Roll 5 Henry VI''〕 An order of the Privy Council of 1426 released them from any debts incurred as executors.〔''Patent Roll 5 Henry VI''〕 Sampson was appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer of Ireland in 1424; 〔''Patent Roll 2 Henry VI''〕he appointed James Blakeney as his deputy. Blakeney became Chancellor of the Exchequer in 1431, when Sampson presumably either died or retired.〔Hadyn p.450〕 ==References==
